History and Mission
The team was founded in August 2012 by Roy and Sabrina Ghosh and, since then, has had over 250 young students succeed through the program. The team adapted into a grass-roots, community effort led by Dr. Sam Ghosh, and his wife Zubeda Ghosh for over 8 years, consisting of dedicated high school students and a coach-mentorship program.

The ongoing mission of the program is to encourage collaboration over competition in a society dominated by independence in academics. The goal is to also connect students to co-curricular activities and opportunities that further their scientific exploration and prepare them in the best way possible for these future endeavors after middle school. In this way, Springhouse Science Olympiad fosters creativity, innovation, growth, and genuine love for science at the earliest age possible.

This Science Olympiad program has helped shape the aspirations and career goals of all the participating middle school students and encourages countless others to strive harder. Today, Parkland School District and the School Board recognizes the importance of this new STEM initiative and the high level of achievement of all those participating.

What is Science Olympiad?
One of the nation’s most prestigious science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) competitions, Science Olympiad brings together 120 winning middle school and high school teams advancing from state-level competitions. Rigorous hands-on and lab events led by experts from government agencies, top universities, industry and Science Olympiad state chapters cover topics in robotics, physics, epidemiology, astronomy, chemistry, meteorology, coding and engineering.
